Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord

 28th March

At the beginning of Masses on this Sunday we

 celebrate the triumphal entry of

 Jesus into Jerusalem, riding on a donkey and

 acclaimed by the palm-waving crowds as the

 Messiah.  The Gospel is a

 solemn reading of the Passion.

There will be distribution of Palms at all Masses

  10.15am        Procession of Palms from St. Benedict’s Senior

                           School  Hall.  The 10.15am (Family Mass) and

                          10.30am (Choral Mass) will both process from ‘the

                          Cloisters’, the school hall (at the end of Marchwood

                          Crescent) to their respective locations: the parish Hall

                           and the Abbey.

The Chrism Mass in Westminster Cathedral will be

celebrated at 12.00noon by Archbishop Vincent Nichols,

the Area Bishops and many of the secular and

religious clergy of the Diocese of Westminster. The Holy

Oils will be received into Ealing Abbey

at the 6.00pm Evening Mass.

Wednesday 31st March:  Masses at 7.00am, 9.15am, 6.00pm

Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confessions) during Holy Week

Monday 29th March

Penitential Services starting with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in the Abbey Church at 2.15pm and 8.00pm. An opportunity to prepare together for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. There will be individual confessors to hear Confessions with exposition of The Blessed Sacrament.

Tuesday 30th March         5.30-6.00pm

Wednesday 31st March    5.30-6.00pm

Holy Thursday, 1st April    4.00pm - 6.00pm

The Three Days of Solemn Celebration

of Our Lord’s

Death and Resurrection

Holy Thursday – 1st April

The Mass on this night recalls the Last Supper, when Jesus washed his disciples' feet and commanded them to love one another in the same way.   On this night  the Eucharist was instituted.  After the Mass the Blessed Sacrament is taken in procession to the Altar of Repose in the New Chapel and we are invited to watch and pray there as Jesus invited his own disciples to pray in the Garden of Gethsemane.

6.30pm              Mass of the Lord's Supper and Washing of the Feet

                            followed by Watching before the Blessed Sacrament at

                            the Altar of Repose until midnight

Please come and pray before the Blessed Sacrament at the Altar of Repose.

(Please note there will be no morning Masses on Holy Thursday)

Good Friday – 2nd April

Day of Fasting and Abstinence

The Liturgy of the Day is at 3pm, and recalls Jesus' death for us at that hour.  It includes the Liturgy of the Word, the Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion.  There will be an opportunity for individual Veneration of the Cross at the end of the Service.

 

  8.30am             Morning Prayer of the Church (Tenebrae).

                             After Tenebrae, Tallis Lamentations will be sung by the

                             lay clerks of the Ealing Abbey Choir.

10.15am             Procession of Witness, 2nd Station on the Abbey steps.

                             Churches in Ealing make the Stations of the Cross

                             together, ending at Christ the Saviour Church, Ealing

                             Broadway.  There will be coffee afterwards in Haven

                             Green Baptist Church Hall.

12.00noon          Good Friday Liturgy for children.

  3.00pm            Solemn Good Friday Liturgy and

..                          Veneration of the Relic of the True Cross

                            Celebrant - Bishop Alan Hopes

  7.00pm            Taize music, meditation and prayer

  8.00pm            Stations of the Cross and Veneration of the Relic of the

                            True Cross.

       (Please note there will be no Mass on Good Friday)

 

 

Holy Saturday - 3rd April

8.30am          Morning Prayer of the Church (Tenebrae) with

                        Latin Lamentations.

Paschal Vigil 9.00pm

The Vigil service begins with the Easter Fire outside the church, from which is lit the Easter Candle, a symbol of the risen Christ.   After processing into the church a minister intones the Exultet in praise of the light of Christ, the scriptures are read and the Gloria is sung to the sound of ringing bells in celebration of the Lord's Resurrection.   At this service too the baptismal water is blessed, adult baptisms are celebrated, new members are received into the Church, confirmed and receive First Holy Communion.

9.00pm              Holy Saturday Vigil – please gather on the Abbey steps. 

                            Adult baptisms and receptions into the Church are 

                            celebrated at this Vigil. 

There will be an Agape ( a celebration sharing food) in the Abbey Hall after the service:  please bring a contribution of food or drink to share.  This can be left in the hall before the service.

(Please note there will be no Mass this day until the Vigil Mass at 9.00pm)
